to your questions

.
During its "reactivation" when boiling it, the temperature removes the impurities trapped in the charcoal's pores. Note that bamboo charcoal (also called takesumi), comes from Japanese ancestral knowledge, it is produced in an oven and burned for more than 3 days between 800°C and 1,000°C. This slow combustion, at very high temperature, develops the millions of pores that will act as adsorbers.
After about 6 months, depending on your frequency of use, the charcoal must be changed. You can easily recycle it by using it to fertiliser your plants, to deodorise your closets or shoes or even to neutralise bad smells in your cat's litter box.
